NIGHTRUNNER’s cyber punk-inspired, tripped out world seems daunting at first…but relax into it and you’re in for a treat.
It’s a show that doesn’t quite meet the visual and sonic overwhelm it suggests, but that really doesn’t matter. Because at its heart is something even better: exceptionally talented humans.
This world premiere features some of the most thrilling moments you’ll find at this year’s festival. The aerial work in the show is spectacular, with performers high above the stage on ropes and trapezes. There are no harnesses or nets, this is very real – especially when they swing out over the front rows.
The audience was stunned by some of the hula hoop work early in the show, and later on the laser dance is one of the coolest things you’ll see anywhere, a blurring of the line between what is there and what isn’t.
For all the light and sound design, I left NIGHTRUNNER amazed by the performers themselves, and their routines which all combine strength, skill and imagination.
Take a trip away from some of the bigger venues and find your way to NIGHTRUNNER. It might not change your life, but it will make your night.
