Dom Chambers hits the stage and pulls out a breathtaking routine like it’s nothing. It’s a hugely impressive way to open the show and sets expectations effectively: you’re going to see some really cool stuff, and Chambers isn’t going to beat around the bush.
You want tricks? He’s going to give you tricks.
A lot of the joy of Fake Wizard is in wondering if he’s reached the end of a routine or if there’s more to come – and then wondering what he’s going to do next. I’m not going to tell you what he does, because if you’re interested in seeing a modern magic show you should book tickets now, and I don’t want to spoil it.
It is all supremely entertaining. Chambers has experience on the global circuit (including The Illusionists on Broadway and Penn & Teller: Fool Us) so he knows how to work a room. His confidence really shines through, and his relaxed vibe shows he’s genuinely having a good time up on stage.
There’s beer, some input from Siri, a bit of audience participation, dreams, EDM (Extreme Deck Manipulation) and maybe some projectile dysfunction. Dom Chambers has delivered a really likeable modern magic show – fun, cheeky and able to dazzle an audience with illusions, while packing in the laughs.
